Characteristics: Flowerheads are an intense, bright blue color. Once a common weed of cornfields. As a result of modern agricultural practices, it is now very rare in the wild. The young shoots and flowers are edible.
Properties: Petals produce a lovely blue dye used in fabric and edible confections. Cornflower has a long history of herbal use, though it is seldom employed nowadays. Remedy for tired eyes.
Symbology: Hope, Remembrance, Devotion. Known for teaching mankind about the medical secrets and healing power of herbs. Worn by those in love. Good luck, wealth.

Through the “Language of Flowers”, these plants are a means of expression and can symbolize a vast array of emotions from affection to devotion, remembrance, grief, and joy. The most popular usage was in Victorian times where single stems and floral arrangements (posies) were utilized as a form of hidden communication and served a distinct purpose: to communicate feelings that could not always be spoken out loud. Where people felt unable to express themselves, flowers took on that power for them.
